Nightlife

On Friday, July 14, mission trippers will be invited to tour the city during the “Night Out”.  From 1 -7p, the group will be released to visit the city of New Orleans on their own.  Explore the French Quarter or walk along the Mississippi River.  Don’t forget to research museums, shops, and other visitors attractions.  Oh, and don’t forget spending money to pay for dinner out on Friday and other souvenirs.

Each evening we will meet as a large group to worship and celebrate the day’s work.  We will share stories, sing music, dance, and enjoy our fellowship.  Afterwards, we will break out into small groups to end the day in a more intimate discussion of the days events and the mission trip journey we are on.

Lodging

We are staying with Camp Restore (http://camprestore.org/) who will be providing food and lodging.  Bunk beds provided in isolated male and female rooms within the camp.  20 showers available to get squeaky clean after a long day’s work.  Accommodations also include various lounge spaces for gathering and relaxing throughout the week.

Work

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, covering more than 80% of the city with water. As of today, 11 years later, there are still an estimated 5,000 families who do not have the funds or resources to rebuild homes. This summer, LutheranHANDS will be partnering with the local organization St. Bernard Projects to help continue rebuilding homes and restoring hope in NOLA communities.
