For those of you who might not have the opportunity to serve or attend the National Youth Gathering and are really hoping to partake in a mission trip this summer, there is an opportunity for high schoolers and young adults to serve for a week in June! LutheranHANDS will be traveling to McKeesport, Pennsylvania to help out with Mission on The Mon. This is the third opportunity for service offered by LutheranHANDS for the summer of 2012!

Prior to the Gathering, we will be spending two full days working in Birmingham, Alabama with Hands On Nashville, Habitat for Humanity, and other local service organizations. On the way, we are stopping in Birmingham, Alabama!!

LutheranHANDS is once again going a few days early to the ELCA National Youth Gathering. Prior to the Gathering, we will be spending two full days working in Birmingham, Alabama with Hands On Nashville, Habitat for Humanity, and other local service organizations. If you are registered for the ELCA National Youth Gathering, you want to join us on this trip!

Why Birmingham? On April 27, 2011, a series of tornadoes swept through areas of the south with Alabama and the Birmingham area being one of the hardest hit places. The tornadoes were extremely destructive. They destroyed homes, trees, power lines - entire communities. Thousands of people were displaced and lost everything. We are heading to Birmingham to walk with these people and to be a part of helping them regain hope after such sadness.

METAMORPHOSIS

One of the great aspects of going on a LutheranHANDS mission trip is that you not only get to serve others, but also learn about yourself and your faith! In our time in Birmingham, we will be talking about METAMORPHOSIS. A marked change in appearance, character, condition, or function. We will be talking during our time in Birmingham about what it means to be transformed - as a community, as a city, as a world, as individuals and all of this through Christ!

We can accomodate those young adults who are not attending the Gathering. They will be able to stay in Birmingham to work during the week and we will pick them up upon our return from New Orleans.

The Details

Depart from Harrisburg: Sunday, July 15th

Meet at Hershey High School - 6:00am
Buses Depart at 7:00am
You may park your car at Hershey High School for the week at your own risk.

Return to Harrisburg: Monday, July 23rd (anytime between noon and 6pm)

**Traveling overnight Sunday, July 22nd into Monday, July 23rd

We will leave New Orleans at 3pm on Sunday, July 22nd
We expect to arrive at Hershey High School between noon and 6pm on Monday, July 23rd

Cost: $375 per person
**Costs only cover the pre-trip and transportation to/from Harrisburg. It does NOT cover Gathering registration fees and hotel during the Gathering.

Timeline:

Due Immediately upon Sign-Up Confirmation: $150 per person deposit is due
April 1, 2012: $225 per person final balance is due
